and how does this all work?

strategy + client homework
Directly after booking, we will have a Strategy Session to solidify the pages for the website as well as the site journey. We’ll also clarify SEO keywords that I will research and finalize for the start date.
Then it’s on to the client homework! You’ll prep all the materials I’ll need to get your site done efficiently — completing questionnaires, gathering inspiration. and collecting photos/graphics/site text. Whether that’s working with a photographer, logo designer, copywriter, etc. or preparing these pieces yourself.
It is super important all these pieces are prepped ahead of time to ensure a smooth and efficient design process.

design
Your design date has arrived!
We kick off Day 1 with a Getting Started call. Together we’ll overview your inspiration and content. I‘ll ask any clarifying questions to really deeply understand your customer and desired look, and we’ll finalize your SEO keywords!
Then I get straight to work transforming all your collected content into a beautiful, strategic, and custom website design!
I’ll be pretty quiet on the email front, but be sure I am working away! At the end of this phase, you’ll receive a private link and password to view your site!

edits + functionalities
Now it’s onto design edits!
With your new private site link, you’ll compile a numbered list of edits to send my way for completion. We’ll go through various cycles of requesting and completing edits. While there is not a limit to the number of edit rounds, there is a limit of time!
For this reason, it is very imperative that you are available via email throughout this phase so we can effectively work together. You don’t need to block all your time off, but be sure to choose your design date to not overlap with any vacations or conferences.
During this phase, I will also be implementing some basic SEO and adding any additional functionalities or 3rd party tools.

launch + training
Time to celebrate! Your site is finished! 🎉
We’ll go live together on a Launch Call where I will walk you through selecting and paying for your Squarespace plan.
Then it’s time for your first training! The first session will be conducted right after your site goes live. If you’ve chosen the standard custom site plan with 3 training sessions, your remaining 2 sessions will be the following Tuesday & Thursday. If you’ve chosen custom site + blog plan, your remaining 3 sessions will be the following Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.
So that you’re able to make all the mistakes and ask all the questions during the safety of our time together, each session comes with lesson-specific homework. Therefore, it is crucial you are also available during this week so you can soak in maximum hands-on learning.
Finally, you’ll receive any and all files, documentation, training notes, lesson recordings, and video tutorials by the time we’re done with our training.

We answer this question during our Strategy Session right after you confirm your booking. Then, we begin to work backwards and create the Customer Site Journey This ensures we have only as many page as we need, and each page has a specific action the user should take to get them on their way to accomplishing your website’s greater goal.

A website doesn’t have to be scary or complicated! Squarespace (my platform of choice) makes building and managing a website accessible to everyone. After building a new website for our family business and learning this myself over 6 years ago, I wanted to tell all small business owners, “Yes! You can do this, too!”
But learning all the ins and outs of a new software platform can take a lot of time to master. I know, because I’ve been mastering Squarespace since 2015!

In 2015, I left a career in corporate training & development to move to Europe for my husband’s PhD studies. With all my new free time, I dusted off my yearbook graphic design skills and embarked on a journey to rebrand and rebuild the very outdated (and inaccessible) website for the family business back in Iowa using a promising sounding website builder I heard about on a podcast — Squarespace.
And very naturally, I paired my experience in corporate training with website design and have been helping other small business owners take control of their websites ever since!
